Today, we shift our focus to Northwest Georgia and have a special guest, as Mr. Lawrence Morgan, the founder and curator of NWGAFootball.us joins us to talk high school football. Lawrence has helped to spotlight some of the football talent in Northwest Georgia. He started what he thought would be a small hobby, which has now grown to include a website nwgafootball.us and a very active social media presence (Twitter: @NWGAFootball). We talk about a couple of the best players he's seen as well as a few surprise players in the area. We also discuss best game atmospheres. Jasper and Pickens County may have historically been known for producing the best marble in the state of Georgia. Yet this fall, head football Coach Chris Parker has the mountain community focused on the gridiron. Coach Parker and the Dragons have won their first eight games for the first time in school history. The Dragons have benefited from senior leadership this season. Coach Parker talks about his beginnings at Sequoyah High school, some of the young men who've stepped up for the Dragons this season and he plugs some of the great BBQ restaurants in Pickens County. Of course we talk a little about the big game this Friday. Pickens will host the Ridgeland Panthers for the Region 6-4A title and Coach Parker gives us his thoughts on the opponent and what makes this week's game challenging. This maybe the most anticipated game in the young rivalry between Creekview and Sequoyah. Both teams enter the game undefeated and ranked in the top 5 by most major publications in the state. Each team has their share of college prospects. Both teams are physical and fast. Today we check in with both of the head coaches, Adam Carter of Creekview and James Teter of Sequoyah. We talk about the things that have made their teams successful this season, we also talk about a senior leader that’s a difference maker for each team, and we talk about the atmosphere of each community and fans for both schools. And most importantly, we get some insight from each coach about their opponent on Friday night.
If that isn't enough, we also get to spend some time with the Cedarwood Tavern Crew, who host a Cherokee County pre and post game live video program. We discuss some of the surprising things they've seen on the county along with some of the top performers. Of course, we get their take on the big game on Friday night as well. We had the pleasure of spending a little time with Marist Head Coach Alan Chadwick. Coach Chadwick is a Georgia high school coaching legend. To date, his teams have won 367 games, which makes him the current active leader and second all-time. Marist has also never missed the playoffs under his guidance. Will those stats are nice, Coach Chadwick isn't focused on the past. The War Eagles have a challenging schedule this season. Coach Chadwick talks about some of those challenges and gives us a coach’s perspective on his team. Coach also gives us a little insight into the Fish Bowl that will be played Friday night at Hughes-Spalding Stadium on the Marist campus. Prove it! That's the motto for the 2018 Thomasville Bulldogs. We had a chance to visit with the Dogs head coach Zach Grage and talk Thomasville Football. Coach Grage tells us how he got to Thomasville as well as sharing some of the goals for the team, some of the surprise players, standout players, and All-Stars in the community. Coach Jamie Fox took over as Head Coach for Harris County this season. Fox has been the offensive coordinator for the past six seasons. While this is Coach Fox’s first season as the head coach at Harris County, he does have previous head coaching experience at Shaw. Coach Fox and the Tigers return some big names, including Cal’von Harris back in the backfield. Last season he was a First Team All-State selection and rushed for over 1,600 yards with 9 TDs. The Tigers have faced some stiff competition to date and have been hit by the injury bug, but are looking to get healthy during the bye week. Region play is still in front of the Tigers, so there is still much to play for this season. Tune in as we talk Tiger Football with Coach Fox. Earlier this week, we had the opportunity to talk to Coach Kyle Adkins, head coach for the Campbell Spartans. Last season, Coach Adkins led Campbell to the playoffs for the first time in 11 years. This season, the Spartans are looking to build on the success from last season. We had a chance to spend some time with Trion Bulldog alum and current head coach, Justin Brown. Coach Brown is in his 7th season at Trion. Under his guidance, the Bulldogs have qualified for post season play five out of the last six years. Coach Brown discusses some of the challenges this year's team faces with inexperience after the loss of several key players to graduation. The Bulldogs are off to a fast start and have probably exceeded a lot of expectations early on this season. Coach Brown tells us about some of the pleasant surprises that the team has received early in the season as well as other players to watch. Head Coach Jay Poag begins his third season as head coach of the Christian Heritage Lions. The Lions are in their seventh season of play at the GHSA level. Christian Heritage will face a challenging slate of games in 2018 including a 3 game stretch of regional foes Mt. Zion, Carroll, Darlington, and Trion. All of whom made the playoffs last season. Coach Poag joined us to talk about his teams fast start, some of the surprising players thus far and the teams " international" flair. In our final preseason installment of Conversations with Coaches, we spend a few minutes with Coach Adam Carter, who takes over as the new head coach of the Creekview Grizzlies. Coach Carter inherits a Creekview team that has missed out on the playoffs the last two seasons. We talk to Coach Carter about some of the challenges he and the team face this season.
